In Case You Missed It: 4th Annual HealthStreet Night of Dance
On Saturday, October 19, HealthStreet’s fourth annual Night of Dance brought together the arts, health, and diversity while showcasing the Gainesville community. This three hour dance party brought fun, laughs, and meaningful conversations on what it means to maintain good health in the community.
We opened the night with a wonderful rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Alyssa Berger, followed by an energizing line dance lesson from UF Dance Marathon’s Morale team. Once the crowd was properly warmed up, UF Health Shands Arts in Medicine brought mindfulness and movement in a Creative Dance for Well-being Workshop.
A crowd favorite from last year, the Jazz groups from Dance Alive took to the stage, and then YouFit got the crowd on their feet with a Zumba class. Gainesville Irish Dancers then brought a taste of Ireland to Bo Diddley Plaza and the University of Florida’s own Andy Kane then took to the lawn with The Baldwins to teach the crowd Traditional American Folk Dancing.
Later that evening, Vanessa Acebal brought the hype with her Hip Hop Fitness and International Dance workshop that was followed by Elegant Body Pilates with Jacqueline Valdez and vocals by Jason Rex. The audience was then treated to a Bollywood Dance lesson by Manisha Ranade, and Alyssa Berger returned to the stage to close out the show with “Part of Your World.”
With over 30 exhibitors, showcasing the best of Gainesville’s health and wellness organizations, there was no shortage of resources for the community to explore. Those who visited the exhibitors were entered into several raffle drawings for a chance to win gift certificates and memberships to local restaurants, fitness centers, and community attractions.
A selection of food vendors rounded out the night’s celebration with offerings of everything from delicious flame broiled pizza to Indian cuisine to chicken wings and burgers and gourmet ice pops.
