May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Facts to know about Melanoma:

• 1 in 5 people are diagnosed with skin cancer

• Skin cancer can be fatal, more than 80% of skin cancer deaths are from Melanoma

• Skin cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in the US

As we move into summer the intensity of the sun’s UV rays becomes higher.

Here are some ways to protect your skin:

• Apply sunscreen with at least SPF 15 before going outside and reapply as needed

• Make a fashion statement and wear a hat

• Wear sunglasses to protect eyes from UV and sensitive skin around your eyes

• Use an umbrella to shield the sun’s rays

HealthStreet offers great services to UF investigators. Community Health Workers meet community members in the field and link them to studies.
