What is HealthStreet?

Welcome to HealthStreet and thanks for visiting our website!

HealthStreet is an innovative community engagement program at the University of Florida that improves the health of our community by bridging gaps in health care and health research.

HealthStreet’s community health workers (CHW) assess health concerns, conditions and research perceptions of community members. They also provide referrals to community members for medical and social services, as well as opportunities to participate in health research, relevant to their health concerns and health conditions.  HealthStreet is located in Gainesville, FL, but reaches people in North Central and Northeast Florida, including Duval County.

To reduce disparities in healthcare and research

  • To Assess: Assess medical problems and health concerns from community residents themselves
  • To Serve: Link people, based on their needs and concerns, to medical and social services and opportunities to participate in research
  • To Share: Engage in bidirectional, health-promoting communication with and for the community
  • To Build Trust: Increase the community’s trust in the research enterprise through meaningful collaboration
