Skin Cancer Awareness

May is skin cancer awareness month! We all love the sun and spending time outside, but it can come at a cost. Being outside without protection or using tanning beds can lead to skin cancer. The good news is that there are many steps you can take to avoid getting skin cancer.

Here are some important things you can do.  Do not use tanning beds, limit the time you are outside between 10am and 4pm, and follow the 5 S’s below:

    1. Slip on clothing that covers as much of your skin as possible.
    2. Slop on some sunscreen. Apply it 20 minutes before going outside and reapply every 2 hours.
    3. Slap on a hat.
    4. Seek shade.
    5. Slide on sunglasses.
