Romae Smith has joined HealthStreet through the McNair Scholars Program, under the mentorship of Dr. Linda Cottler and HealthStreet’s Research Statistician, Jasmine Mack.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the McNair Scholars Program prepares undergraduate students for their pursuits of a doctoral degree by providing financial support, mentoring and opportunities so they can gain research experience, academic skills and strategies and develop student/mentor relationships that are crucial for success in higher education. Guided by their mentor, scholars conduct an extensive research project with the aims of presenting their findings at professional conferences. Scholars also receive peer support, mentorship, tutoring and academic counseling. All of these activities are designed to equip McNair Scholars with the information they need to successfully enter and complete a graduate program. Romae is a rising senior majoring in math and statistics and minoring in actuarial sciences.
