New Health Research Study Measures Effect of Mental Health on the Body
“The goal of the research is to develop an understanding of the physiology of mental disorders … HealthStreet significantly aided our efforts, as they have wide contact with the public of Alachua County, helping us recruit the broad range of participant required for our research,”- Principal Investigator, Peter J. Lang, Ph.D., a graduate research professor in the department of Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Florida

HealthStreet: A Successful Model
On September 9, 2016, the Research Participant Community Partnership Core of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research held a conference, “Research Participant Recruitment & Retention: What is Working Across the Nation?” HealthStreet’s poster was presented by Lauren Light, our study navigator.
She shared with research professionals our best practices and innovative strategies for engaging the community in health research.” This is great visibility for HealthStreet and we thank the UF CTSI for its support.

HealthStreet JAX turns 3!
Since October 2013, HealthStreet JAX engaged more than 2,600 community members in Duval county to participate in health research. The team, coordinated by Dr. Fern Webb, has partnered with more than 50 community organizations and numerous research principal investigators to expand recruitment efforts.

HealthStreet’s Healthy Halloween Tips & Recipe
With Halloween coming up, the days are getting shorter, houses are starting to look spookier, and candy is filling the aisles of supermarkets. Before you reach for those “buy one, get one” chocolate bar packs, consider the potential health risks of consuming too much refined sugar.

HealthStreet Cancer Corner Testimonial
“I’ve been a member of HealthStreet for several months. I was fortunate to be called and asked to take part in a breast cancer study that would provide free scans to look for breast cancer recurrence. As a triple negative breast cancer survivor, recurrence is often on my mind. Taking part in the study gave me peace of mind with the scans all being clear, and the chance to help our UF researchers!”

Health Research Dissemination at HealthStreet
Dr. Jonathan Licht, director of the University of Florida Health Cancer Center, engaged community members and health professionals alike at HealthStreet during the monthly Cancer Connections meeting. Dr. Licht’s presentation was titled: “What is cancer: a primer on cancer biology.”

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
There are many different symptoms of breast cancer and many women report no symptoms at all. This is why mammograms and breast exams are extremely important tools for detecting it early.
