At HealthStreet, we care for you and your health. We want to make sure to refer you to every needed cancer screening. Coming soon is a study of women who live in Alachua County, are 50 to 80 years of age and have a significant smoking history (25 pack years or more) for lung cancer screening, the Women Helping Women – Lung Cancer Screening Study. Talk to your CHW or come in and see us if you are interested in any information or referrals.

January is National Blood Donor month. According to the American Red Cross, winter presents a challenge for blood donations with holiday schedules and weather conditions often resulting in canceled blood drives. More than ever, with COVID-19 and CDC safety guidelines, potential donors are forgoing this important practice. In January, we are reminded that someone needs a blood donation every few seconds in the US and over 4.5 million people in the US would die every year without lifesaving blood transfusions. Give blood- save lives! Download The American Red Cross Blood Donor app to help you find blood drives happening all around the country.

DID YOU KNOW?

Your dog can donate blood, too. Check with your veterinarian and the Humane Society to make sure you know the local rules and regulations for this type of donation.
