This week is National Eating Disorder Association Awareness Week. Eating disorders can affect anyone regardless of gender, race, or socioeconomic status. If untreated, eating disorders can be serious. If you, or someone you know, has an eating disorder, please seek help. In 2019, we published our HealthStreet findings on eating disorders and willingness of individuals with eating disorders to participate in health research. We found that nearly 4% of our cohort reported an eating disorder; those with eating disorders were more likely than those without eating disorders to be willing to participate in health research. Take a confidential online screening quiz sponsored by the National Eating Disorder Association or call their toll-free, confidential helpline at 1-800-931-2237 for more information.
