June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month. PTSD is an anxiety disorder that some people develop after seeing or living through an event that caused or threatened serious harm and/or death. HealthStreet offers members referrals to mental health services including free therapy nights every Monday. Call us for an appointment. Of HealthStreet members, 20% of males and 18% of females reported experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder. Community Health Workers
CHWs provide outreach around the city throughout the week, offering FREE health resources like Deterra™ Deactivation Bags and NARCAN® Nasal Spray kits. CHWs can also let you know which research studies you may be eligible for and can help you sign up to become a HealthStreet member.

Here are a few studies that you can participate in now:
+The Women Helping Women study is evaluating whether Community Health Workers (CHWs) who recruit and partner with community members increase rates of lung cancer screenings. If you used to or currently smoke and are a woman between 50 and 77 years of age, we’d like to talk to you. Call (352) 294-4880 today.
+The PERLA study is trying to gain a better understanding of the factors such as culture, coping skills, and biological markers that may affect musculoskeletal (MSK) pain in Hispanic American older adults. Eligible participants must be 60 years of age or older, identify as Hispanic/Latino, and experience musculoskeletal pain.
+The Rogue study is examining the role of the gut microbiome on reasoning in older adults living with and without HIV. Eligible participants must be 50 years of age or older, HIV+ or currently taking PrEP, and willing to participate in an MRI.
+The ASD study is examining how brain function and behavior changes over time in individuals with and without autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Eligible participants must be 30-39 years of age, male, white, without a history of autism in self or first degree relatives.
+The Children with Asthma & Obesity study is identifying caregiver-level barriers to and facilitators of physical activity among youth with asthma and obesity. Eligible participants must be a caregiver 18-85 years of age of a child 13-18 years of age diagnosed with asthma and a BMI at or above the 85th percentile.
