Go purple this June! During the month of June the Alzheimer's Association asks people around the world to wear purple in solidarity of Alzheimer's and Brain Injury Awareness Month. This month provides the opportunity to "go purple", support, honor, educate, and declare your commitment to taking action to help end the Alzheimer's epidemic and raise awareness.

Free Meals for Kids and Teens!

 

The Alachua County Public Schools Food and Nutrition Services and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services are now providing their Summer BreakSpot meals to kids and teens 18 years old and under. HealthStreet Community Health Worker (CHW) Outreach Calendar

CHWs work to improve the health of our community by going out on outreach each week to provide medical and social referrals, build meaningful relationships, and give everyone the opportunity to participate in research. CHWs will be at the above locations this week.

Upcoming COVID-19 Vaccination Events

The Our Community Our Health team will be at the following locations this week. The Guatemalan Consulate Event will have staff who can support Spanish translation/interpretation. For a full list of events happening this month view the calendar here.

Research Study Opportunities

Below are a few studies that you can participate in now:

+ The Rogue study is examining the role of the gut microbiome on how adults think. Eligible participants must be 50 years of age or older, HIV+, and willing to get an MRI. 

+ The CNTX study is evaluating a new treatment for chronic knee osteoarthritis. Eligible participants must be 45-80 years of age with chronic knee pain.

+ The Child Hearing Loss study is examining vocabulary and speech learning in children with or without hearing loss. Eligible participants must be caregivers of at least one child 4-6 years of age with hearing loss.

+ The Vaccine study is determining how cancer patients respond to SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) vaccines compared to overall healthy individuals who have received COVID-19 vaccines. Eligible participants must be 25-70 years of age and have received 2 or more SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19) vaccines within the past 1-6 months.

+ The Muscadine Wine study is examining the effects of dealcoholized muscadine wine on improving oxidative stress, inflammation, skin health, and gut microbiome in women. Eligible participants must be female, non-Hispanic white, and 40-65 years of age.
