April is National Minority Health Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of improving the health of racial and ethnic minority communities and reducing health disparities. This year's theme is "Give Your Community a Boost!" The theme focuses on the continued importance of COVID-19 vaccination, including boosters, as one of the strongest tools to protect communities from COVID-19, which has disproportionately affected communities of color.

In conjunction with the the Program to Alleviate National Disparities in Ethnic and Minority Immunizations in the Community (P.A.N.D.E.M.I.C.) HealthStreet delivers health messages in plain language about COVID-19 in areas of high vaccine hesitancy, bringing vaccines to people where they are. Did you know April is also Fair Housing Month? This year's theme is "Fair Housing: The 'Act' in Action." HealthStreet provides referrals to various housing assistance programs. Find us out in the community on outreach or visit us at our physical location to receive more information. Our partners at Florida Legal Services also provide fair housing resources. Later this month, The Free Grocery Store and Florida Legal Services will also hold a workshop and discussion on the relationship between food justice and fair housing at the local level on April 23, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. at How Bazar in Downtown Gainesville. The Alachua County Health Promotions and Wellness Coalition will be holding a "Medication Take Back Day" in which people can safely and anonymously drop off medications for law enforcement to dispose of. See the flyer above for the drop off locations.
