World Lung Cancer Day

8-5-2026_world_lung_cancer_day
World Lung Cancer Day, observed annually on August 1, serves as a global reminder of the importance of lung cancer awareness, prevention, early detection and research. As the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, lung cancer affects millions of individuals and families each year.

However, through lung cancer screening programs, multidisciplinary treatment teams, clinical research and tobacco cessation initiatives, UF Health is committed to reducing the burden of lung cancer in Florida and beyond. As a National Cancer Institute designated cancer center, the UF Health Cancer Institute continues to advance research while providing patients access to cutting-edge therapies and comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Most recently, UF researchers discovered a first-of-its-kind compound that targets a protein closely linked to lung cancer growth and treatment resistance. The breakthrough could help lay the foundation for future therapies and underscores UF's leadership in cancer research.

Below is the self-reported history of cancer among HealthStreet members from 2012 through 2026. A history of cancer was disclosed by 9% of the 15,195 HealthStreet members and 3.3% of HealthStreet members with cancers reported lung cancer.

Crunchy French Onion Chicken Breast

This crunchy French onion chicken recipe is a quick and flavorful weeknight dinner featuring tender chicken breasts coated in crispy French-fried onions and baked to a golden crunch.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ⅓ cups French-fried onions, crushed
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
Instructions:
  1. Gather all ingredients.
  2. Preheat the oven to 400F degrees.
  3. Spread crushed onions in a shallow bowl. Pour egg into a separate shallow bowl.
  4. Dip chicken into beaten egg, then press into crushed onions. Gently tap chicken to let loose pieces fall away. Place breaded chicken on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake chicken until no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, about 20 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165F degrees.
