HIV/AIDS Awareness Month
December is internationally recognized as HIV/AIDS Awareness Month. This observance begins with World AIDS Day, which was first recognized in 1988 to raise awareness about and honor the lives of those affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. This year's theme, selected by the National Institutes of Health's Office of AIDS Research, is Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV Progress, which reinforces the need to innovate and adapt initiatives while recognizing the significant progress that has been made through advancements in medical research, increased access to treatment and prevention, and a broader understanding of the virus.Below is the self-reported lifetime history of HIV among HealthStreet members by self-reported age, race, and sex. HealthStreet provides information on HIV testing and counseling. Call 352-294-4880 to learn more, and check out our calendar for our upcoming health-related services, classes, and events.

As outreach activities for the PANDEMIC grant will soon be coming to a close, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all members of the PANDEMIC team who made this work possible over the past three years. The work being done as part of the PANDEMIC project has focused on getting vaccinations to populations who need them the most by meeting people where they are. Our team spans the country, with members from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Florida State University, University of California-Davis, University of Kentucky, University of Minnesota, University of Missouri, University of Texas-Southwestern, and Health Literacy Media. From November 2021 through October 2024, UF and our partner sites have: • Attended over 4,000 outreach events. • Completed 29,000+ Surveys of Perception. • Administered nearly 12,000 COVID vaccines and 2,000+ other vaccines. • Facilitated 4,000+ Heath Needs Assessments. • Provided over 10,000 referrals to medical and social services.
We thank the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for their funding and commitment to our team.

The Pantry Gourmet
In celebration of our new food pantry, we're thrilled to introduce "The Pantry Gourmet," a fresh new recipe series in our newsletter. Discover quick and easy recipes made with items community members can get from our food pantry.
Beans & Greens Sauté This can be served as a side dish or as a vegetable-filled dinner. Try serving over rice for a heartier dish. You can use a mix of vegetables like spinach, mustard greens, or kale and vary the beans to give the dish a different flavor. If using dried beans, prepare in advance. If using canned, drain and rinse. Ingredients:
1 bunch greens, stems removed, thinly sliced 4 cloves garlic 8-10 oz. Great Northern or Cannellini beans 3 tbsp. olive oil Salt and pepper to taste Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions:
1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. 2. Add garlic and pepper flakes (if using). Cook, stirring often, until golden brown — about 5 minutes. 3. Add greens (in batches, if needed) and stir until beginning to wilt before adding more, tossing with tongs to coat with oil. Note: You can instead add a cup of broth when adding the greens, cover, and simmer until the greens are tender. 4. Add cooked beans. Cook until beans are heated through. 5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
