American Heart Month

  HealthStreet_Newsletter_American_Heart_Month_2025

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. The good news is that there’s a lot we can do to prevent it.

Research shows that people with close relationships at home, work, or in their community tend to be healthier and live longer. One reason, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), is that we’re more successful at meeting our health goals when we work on them with others.

Below is the self-reported lifetime history of heart disease by age, race and sex among HealthStreet members. The percent of self-reported lifetime history of heart disease is highest among white men who are 60+ years of age.

Check out our calendar for our upcoming health-related services, classes, and events.

Consider Donating to HealthStreet

HealthStreet_Blue_Background_Logo_Newsletter

Together, we can make a difference!

Your donation will directly support essential services and truly make a difference in our community. Every dollar you contribute helps us take steps towards reducing disparities that affect so many.

Just imagine the impact of your generosity: for $25, you can provide 15 toiletry items, ensuring dignity and basic hygiene for those in need. With $50, we can purchase 16 daily bus passes to RTS, giving individuals reliable transportation to access vital jobs, healthcare, and services. And with $100, we can fuel the vehicles that our Community Health Workers use with 32 gallons of gasoline, enabling them to reach those in need and provide critical referrals and support.

We are also asking for donations of personal care items such as: shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, pads, tampons, diapers, hairbrushes, combs, deodorant, disposable wipes, shaving kits and cream.

Another way that you can make an impact in our community is by donating to the HealthStreet Clothing Closet! There is an ongoing need of men's, women's, children's and baby's clothing. In addition, there is a need for cold weather clothing such as: coats, gloves, beanies, scarfs and blankets.

Clothing and personal care items can be directly donated at our HealthStreet location anytime between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., so we can place these items into the hands of those who need them.

Let’s join forces and create an extraordinary impact together!

Thank you for your kindness!

  • 6 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 3/4 teaspoon berbere or harissa spice blend
  • 1/4 cup of lemon juice
