Mental Health Wellness Month
As we begin a new year, UF HealthStreet invites community members and partners to join us in recognizing January as Mental Wellness Month.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, maintaining mental wellness is essential because mental health influences how we handle stress, make decisions, build relationships, and function in daily life. NIMH provides expert-reviewed information on mental health conditions, treatment options, and self-care practices that empower individuals to better understand their mental health and seek support when needed.
Mental Wellness Month encourages simple, meaningful steps such as practicing mindfulness, nurturing supportive relationships, and incorporating daily routines that promote calm and resilience. With trusted educational materials and outreach resources available through NIMH, this month serves as a reminder that caring for your mental well‑being is not only important, but completely achievable—one small habit at a time.
Across many studies and populations, women have reported higher lifetime rates of anxiety and depression than men. In our HealthStreet data, women also report higher lifetime rates of anxiety and depression. Adults in the middle adult age group (45 to 64 years of age) have the highest rates reported in our sample. Among men, reports range from 29% among those 65+ years old to 41% in the 45–64-year age range. Among women, those 65+ years of age report 37% compared to 51% in the 45 – 64-year age range.

HealthStreet Honors Award - January
|
|
|
| |
"I’m really honored about receiving the award for this month! Being at HealthStreet over the summer and in the fall has allowed me to grow as a Community Health Worker intern in all aspects, so it feels amazing to know that the work I’ve put in is recognized! Everyone at HealthStreet goes beyond what’s required of them, so to have this honor is something I do not take lightly." - Emilee

Consider Donating to HealthStreet
Together, we can make a difference!
Your donation will directly support essential services and truly make a difference in our community. Every dollar you contribute helps us take steps towards reducing disparities that affect so many.
Just imagine the impact of your generosity: for $25, you can provide 15 personal care items, ensuring dignity and basic hygiene for those in need. With $50, we can purchase 16 daily bus passes to RTS, giving individuals reliable transportation to access vital jobs, healthcare, and services. And with $100, we can fuel the vehicles that our Community Health Workers use with 32 gallons of gasoline, enabling them to reach those in need and provide critical referrals and support.
We are also asking for direct donations of personal care items such as: shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, body wash, shaving kits & cream, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, deodorant, floss, pads, tampons, disposable wipes, hairbrushes and diapers.
Another way that you can make an impact in our community is by donating to the HealthStreet Clothing Closet! There is an ongoing need of the following items: men's clothing, women's clothing, children's clothing, baby clothing.
Clothing and personal care items can be directly donated at our HealthStreet location anytime between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, so we can place these items into the hands of those who need them.
Let’s join forces and create an extraordinary impact together!
Thank you for your kindness!
