National Give Something Away Day
National Give Something Away Day occurs annually on July 15, and to celebrate the holiday this week we would like to encourage our readers to consider giving to HealthStreet. A little goes a long way to helping our community and there are many ways to make a difference through the gift of giving.
HealthStreet's efforts in the community have made an incredible impact with its members. Since June 1, 2024, HealthStreet has distributed 59,198 pounds of food and water to 5,187 households. In addition, 2,950 NARCAN® kits—5,900 total units—were distributed over that same span.
Whether the donation is in the form of monetary funds, clothing, toiletry items or time through volunteering, a simple gift can continue to make a lasting impact in our community. Thank you for your kindness!

HealthStreet Food Pantry Update
Recently our HOPE (Helping Other People Eat) food pantry received a brand new refrigerator thanks to an award from the University of Florida Medical Guild. Since then, the HOPE food pantry has also received a freezer, a refrigerator, a pair of additional shelving units, a fresh produce stand, shopping baskets, and bags thanks to Feeding Northeast Florida. With all of the additional equipment, the pantry has also moved to a more spacious location inside of UF HealthStreet and can now accommodate multiple HealthStreet members at a time so that we can serve our community more efficiently.

Volunteer Opportunities at HealthStreet
At HealthStreet we are committed to providing crucial resources and support to those in need in our community. One of the ways we're making a difference is through our HOPE at HealthStreet food pantry, which offers essential groceries to families and individuals in need of assistance. We're seeking dedicated volunteers to join our team, especially August 11-20, 2025, and help us continue to make a meaningful impact in our community. As a volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to: - Assist with food sorting and distribution
- Help clients navigate our resources and services
- Support our mission to provide healthy food options and promote community well-being
Volunteering at the food pantry is a rewarding experience that makes a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors. Whether you're available for a few hours a month or can commit to a regular schedule, we invite you to join our team.

Chicken Corn Black Bean Soup This week’s featured recipe is chicken corn black bean soup! Made with tender shredded chicken, zesty salsa, sweet corn, and hearty black beans, it’s a bold and comforting dish that comes together in just one pot.
Ingredients: - 3 skinless chicken breasts, shredded
- 32 ounces chicken broth
- 16 ounces restaurant-style salsa
- 1 can sweet corn, drained
- 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
- 2 ½ teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions:
Chicken Breast Recipe: - Place chicken in a pot: Lay the chicken breasts in a single layer in a pot or saucepan and pour in enough water or broth to fully cover the chicken by about an inch.
- Sprinkle in a pinch of salt, pepper, and other seasonings if you want extra flavor.
- Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce heat to low and cover. Simmer gently for 10–15 minutes or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F .
- Remove from liquid and let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before shredding.
- Then use two forks to pull the chicken apart into shreds.
Soup Recipe - Combine shredded chicken meat, chicken broth, salsa, sweet corn, black beans, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, and salt together in a large pot; bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until heated through and flavors have blended, about 20 minutes.
