Men's Mental Health Awareness Month
|
|
June is National Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the unique mental health challenges men face and the stigma surrounding seeking help.
Just as the physical body needs care and attention, so does emotional and mental well-being. It's important to start conversations by checking in with the men in your life about their mental well-being and helping normalize seeking help when it is needed.
By fostering understanding and support, we can can take smalls steps that can lead to significant changes where men can lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. More resources about men's mental health resources can be found, here.
While the prevalence of anxiety and or depression is highest among women overall, the pattern is the same for men regardless of age. The prevalence of anxiety/depression among men is highest between 45-64 year old individuals (41%) versus 51% for women. Compared to the US as a whole, HealthStreet members overall have a slightly higher reported lifetime rate of anxiety/depression (43% vs 37%).

Volunteer Opportunities at HealthStreet
At the HOPE (Helping Other People Eat) at HealthStreet food pantry we are committed to providing crucial resources and support to those in need in our community. One of the ways we're making a difference is through our food pantry, which offers essential groceries to families and individuals in need of assistance. We're seeking dedicated volunteers to join our team, especially June 23-27, 2025 & August 11-20, 2025, and help us make a meaningful impact in our community. As a volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to: - Assist with food sorting and distribution
- Help clients navigate our resources and services
- Support our mission to provide healthy food options and promote community well-being
Volunteering at the food pantry is a rewarding experience that makes a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors. Whether you're available for a few hours a month or can commit to a regular schedule, we invite you to join our team.

Upside-Down Chili Pie This week’s featured recipe that combines two tasty dishes that go together into one perfect main course. The upside-down chili pie is a casserole dish that combines the nostalgic dishes of chili and cornbread into one easy recipe!
Ingredients: - 2 cans (approximately 30 ounces total) chili or 4 cups homemade chili
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 (8.5-ounce) box Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon onion powder, optional
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Have a baking sheet and an 8-inch pan ready.
- Warm up the chili and water on the stovetop over medium heat until it is lightly simmering. Alternatively, add to a large, microwave-safe dish and microwave in 30-second increments. This allows for an even, shorter baking time. Simmering it with a bit of water will loosen up the canned or leftover chili. If your chili is especially thick, add up to another 1/2 cup of water.
- In a medium mixing bowl, add the corn muffin mix, egg, milk, salt, and onion powder (if using). Using a whisk or fork, stir everything together until well incorporated. I use a big wooden spoon to drop about 1/4 cup portions all over the chili. Very gently, using the back of the spoon, push the batter towards the edge of the casserole pan, spreading the cornbread batter until most of the chili is covered.
- Place the casserole on top of the baking sheet in case the chili bubbles over it’ll save you an oven clean-up. Bake for 15 minutes, rotate the pan, and bake for another 15 to 25 minutes. The cornbread batter should have risen and be a deep yellow color. Let the casserole cool for about 10 minutes before serving so the chili can set.

Consider Donating to HealthStreet
Together, we can make a difference!
Your donation will directly support essential services and truly make a difference in our community. Every dollar you contribute helps us take steps towards reducing disparities that affect so many.
Just imagine the impact of your generosity: for $25, you can provide 15 personal care items, ensuring dignity and basic hygiene for those in need. With $50, we can purchase 16 daily bus passes to RTS, giving individuals reliable transportation to access vital jobs, healthcare, and services. And with $100, we can fuel the vehicles that our Community Health Workers use with 32 gallons of gasoline, enabling them to reach those in need and provide critical referrals and support.
We are also asking for direct donations of personal care items such as: shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, body wash, shaving kits & cream, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, deodorant, floss, pads, tampons, disposable wipes, hairbrushes and diapers.
Another way that you can make an impact in our community is by donating to the HealthStreet Clothing Closet! There is an ongoing need of the following items: men's clothing, women's clothing, children's clothing, baby clothing.
Clothing and personal care items can be directly donated at our HealthStreet location anytime between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., so we can place these items into the hands of those who need them.
Let’s join forces and create an extraordinary impact together!
Thank you for your kindness!
