National COPD Awareness Month
National COPD Awareness Month is observed throughout November to bring attention to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a serious lung disease that causes breathing difficulty.COPD affects nearly 16 million Americans and most commonly affects older adults, though about 1 in 33 younger adults have the disease according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. The Institute's Learn More Breathe Better program brings greater visibility to lung health by translating research for public and professional education programs.Below is the self-reported lifetime history of COPD among HealthStreet members by self-reported age, race, and sex. The percent of self-reported lifetime history of COPD is highest among white men 60-plus years of age.Check out our calendar for our upcoming health-related services, classes, and events. |

The Pantry Gourmet
In celebration of our new food pantry, we're thrilled to introduce "The Pantry Gourmet," a fresh new recipe series in our newsletter. Discover quick and easy recipes made with items community members can get from our food pantry.
Lindy’s Cranberry Dream
For people who do not like cranberries and, of course, for those who love them. Tastes like ice cream and is very easy to make, though you will need some sort of mold, such as a Bundt or muffin pan. Ingredients:
1 can whole cranberries 1 can crushed pineapple (drained) 8 ounces sour cream
Instructions:
1. Combine the ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir until they are creamy pink in color. 2. Place the mixed ingredients into a pan.
3. Freeze.
4. Remove from the freezer right before dinner and let sit for about 10 minutes or so. Turn the mixture over onto a plate.
5. Cut into pieces. If in a muffin pan, the mixture can be left as is.
6. Serve with dinner, placing right beside any other cranberry sauce.
Your guests will not believe how good it is. Can refreeze if there is anything left.
