National Stroke Awareness Month
May is National Stroke Awareness Month, an important time to raise awareness about strokes, their risk factors, symptoms, and the importance of early intervention and treatment. Each year millions of people experience strokes, with a significant number resulting in long-term disabilities.
Below is the self-reported lifetime history of stroke among HealthStreet members by age, race, and sex. The percent of self-reported history of stroke is highest among White men 75+ years of age and is lowest among White women 18-54 years of age. Learn how to recognize the signs of a stroke here.
